Cambridge PhD student banned from Israel

Jameel Zayed is a fourth-year PhD student in the department of chemistry at Cambridge University, UK. He was banned from Israel in 2009 for 5 years which means he cannot see his family or pursue his reasearch. This has escalated and according to Attorney Richard Goldstein, being refused entry to Israel has undoubtedly become a part of his international visa history and very likely contributed to his U.S. F1 student visa application being ‘suspended’ by the U.S. Embassy in London.

Jameel’s case was raised at International Conference on Sustainable Urbanisation, Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in the Conduct of Science who issued a statement saying: “To note, with concern, the various reports where Israeli scholars and institutions had been subject to restrictions on freedom of association; to make enquiries with the UK Royal Society regarding the case of Jameel Zayed”
