Prof. Stuart Stanton of St George’s Hospital Medical School and ‘Jewish
community leader’, chairman of Hadassah UK, has called for the sacking
of Tel Aviv University academics supporting the boycott. He has written
to TAU rector Prof. Aron Shai and president Prof. Yossi Klafter demanding
he sack Anat Matar and Rachel Giora.
Professor Stanton believes academic freedom is the freedom to speak
in suport of the powerful and silence their outrage at the denial of
human rights. This is not a vision of academic freedom that BRICUP recognises
and is why we call for an institutional boycott of Israeli Universities
not the boycott of individuals.
