        SUPPRESSION OF THE PALESTINIAN VOICE IN UK UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES and INTERFERENCE IN TEACHING AND RESEARCH

 

Colleagues will have registered the disturbing growth of political suppression of Palestine advocacy on UK campuses.

Student societies are being deregistered

Students are being subjected to disciplinary investigations

Demonstrations are being outlawed

Meetings are being banned on institutional property

Lectures from visiting professors are being banned

Staff articles are being censored

Staff social media posts are being monitored

Academic staff are under pressure for lectures and readings

BRICUP, with a number of partner organisations, is launching a campaign in defence of campus freedoms –

  • freedom to teach and research on Middle East conflicts without fear of external or internal political interference; and

  • freedom of students and staff to support calls for Palestinian liberation on campuses, to oppose Israeli policies, and to criticise the political ideology of Zionism
