The Israeli airforce launched a massive bombing attack on the Islamic
University of Gaza causing extensive damage. The Israeli military claimed
that the university housed “research and development of weapon
manufacturing””; this repeats the claims made in 2009 for
the bombing of the university during Cast lead. This claim was investigated
by the Goldstone Commission who reported that they “did not find
any information about their use as a military facility or their contribution
to a military effort that might have made them a legitimate target in
the eyes of the Israeli armed forces.”

If weapons development makes Universities legitimate targets for attack
then Technion, Tel Aviv University and other Israeli Universities that
celebrate their arms research may feel equally vulnerable.
