In an unprecedented step a major US academic institution has voted
to support the academic boycott. One year ago, the Academic and Community
Activism Caucus of the ASA asked the Executive Committee (EC) to consider
a resolution to honor the call from Palestinian civil society to support
the academic boycott of Israel. The EC forwarded the resolution to the
National Council. Following extensive deliberative procedures the Council
unanimously decided to issue and recommend to a
boycott motion
to its members.

The American Studies Association is the oldest and largest USA association
devoted to the interdisciplinary study of American culture and history;
it has 5,000 individual members along with 2,200 library and other institutional
subscribers.
